‘What is G-spot?’ How to find your G-spot? Is G-spot real? What is the meaning of Gräfenberg?
I am sure we all must have encountered these questions in our lives irrespective of our genders. Nonetheless, Is G-spot real? is one of the the top ranked questions in list of life science’s unsolved problems.
To uncover the truth, many researchers worked hard and tried to gathered evidence to convince the rest of the medical fraternity about the presence G-spot in the female human body. But the real question is how much of the existing data is concrete enough to believe in the existence of G spot, its location, and its exact biological function.
Motivation to write this post
My motivation to write this post was to she light on all the medical facts associated with G-spot and female pleasure. Therefore I took a deep dive into literature to gain insights in this topic. In this article I will initially tell you about the history of G -pot followed by the latest findings and truth about the cosmetic surgeries being performed in the name of ‘enhancement of female pleasure.
Why do we call it ‘G-spot’ ?
In the year 1688, De Graff, a Dutch physician and anatomist first identified the presence of an erogenous zone in inner front wall (anterior-distal) of the vagina. Also, he was the one who reported the phenomenon of female ejaculation linked to the erogenous zone in females.
For almost three long centuries there was no whispering around the topic and suddenly in 1950, Ernst Gräfenberg, a German gynecologic re-confirmed De Graff’s observation and named it ‘erogenous zone’. Further in 1981, Addiego changed it to ‘the Gräfenberg zone’. Afterwards in 1982 it was abbreviated as ‘G-spot’ by Ladas in one of his non-academic books.
Henceforth media i.e., magazines, T.V. and newspapers popularized it as ‘G-spot’ across the globe and in recent years social media took charge to publicize the topic and declared ‘G-spot’ as a rhetoric of female liberation and independence.
What is G-spot? Is it an organ?
No, G-spot is not an organ in the female reproductive system. Surprisingly it was earlier mislabeled as a female prostate gland. Surely that is not the case either.
Address of G-spot ?
We still do not know the exact placement of G-spot in the female body. Going forward I will be discussing with you the scientific evidences which I came across.
G-spot in vagina
Historically, scientists made several attempts to anatomically locate G-spot in female vagina, but they could discover G-spot until in the year 2012 Dr. Adam Ostrzenski, Institute of Gynecology, St. Petersburg, Florida, USA and his team discovered a sac like structure which they claimed as ‘erogenous zone’ or G spot.
Afterwards they defined G-spot as a tiny complex of neurons and blood vessels (neuro-vascular complex) located in the inner front wall of vagina (anterior-distal wall) which gets filled with blood upon stimulation or arousal. Now you might ask me why did he succeed and other failed. So, one of the key differences in his approach was that, he performed all the dissections on a structurally intact vagina which was more relevant physiologically and closer to a live human as compared to all the previous attempts were made on an amputated vagina i.e. disfigured/not intact.
Further they went on to perform histology, MRI and electro-vaginography in animal models to confirm its presence and renamed it as Ostrzenski’s G-spot.
Surprisingly, they are still skeptical about the true location erogenous zone/G-spot.

G-Spot in clitoris
Helen E. O’Connell AO, an Australian professor of urology and an eminent researcher in the anatomical study of the clitoris has performed an MRI scan clitoris in the year 2005. She speculated that G-spot could be a part of the clitoral network. She says that from outside clitoris looks like a small bud sitting on the top of the urethra but from inside it extends in a long horseshoe shape and is packed with complex nerve endings. Certainly what we see from outside is a tip of an iceberg. Hence it is highly likely that it is the clitoral network which gets stimulated during sex.
Do females ejaculate upon stimulation of G-spot?
Generally there is always a hype around male ejaculations (sperms and semen) but no body talks about women, in fact it is a taboo.
But there are few studies which show that stimulation of G-spot triggers release of fluid from urethra. However experts disagree with them, instead they believe that it is either diluted urine and fluids released by Skene’s glands spot) which lubricates the female urethra during sex. Skene’s gland was previously mistaken as G- spot.
Basically there is a lack of convincing evidence in this hemisphere as well.
What are ‘G-shots’/ ‘O-shots’/ G-Spotplasty ?Do they help in attaining powerful orgasms in females?
Basically biological chemicals are pushed in the patients body.
- G-shot procedure – Hyaluronic acid is injected
- O-shot procedure – Platelet rich plasma is injected
Nowadays physicians and plastic surgeons do offer injections ‘G-shots’ or ‘O-shots’ to increase the size of the G-spot and therefore sensitivity to touch to their patients. However no human clinical trial has been reported in the official website of clinical trials (clinicaltrials.gov) to prove this.
Now you might ask me what is G-Spotplasty.
It is a new surgical reconstructive procedure performed on the females to improve their female sexual activity, sexual behaviors, and sexual concerns. To prove that 3 women in 2019 had undergone the surgery. The procedure was completed without any complications or surgical issues. All three women reported positive results; re-establishing vaginal orgasms with different degrees of difficulties, and were very happy with the outcome of G-Spotplasty (Read more).
My thoughts
The available data is not convincing enough for me to conclude that; Yes, G-zone/G-spot exists in either vagina or clitoris in female reproductive anatomy. Nevertheless , I believe the ongoing research might shed some light in the dungeons where ‘G-spot‘ is being captivated so that this subject will be closed once and for all.
